Located in the upscale West Lake area of Austin, Texas, one of the state's most affluent neighborhoods, Davenport Liquors is owned and operated by Ricardo Vides. Davenport's beautiful hardwood fixtures are host to an array of spirits and fine wines from around the world. We caught up with Mr. Vides recently to speak with him about Catapult.

Scanning In, Scanning Out : Catapult's Powerful Automation

As owner of a modern retail operation Vides' vision, as he explains it, is to achieve "total front-to-back automation. We want to scan in new inventory, shelve it, and then scan it out at the point of sale. The touchscreen is an awesome interface, but we almost never have to use it until the very end of each transaction because with Catapult everything is fully automated." Automatic features such as discounting, security control, and promotional sales allow his cashiers to focus on the customer rather than the transaction.

Complete Control : Catapult's Reporting Power

Vides uses a wide range of Catapult's powerful reports as well. "During the course of any given day I might run Daily, Cashier, Weekly, Hourly Sales, High/Low Input, or Inventory reports," says Vides. "I'm completely dependent on Catapult's range of reports for determining my hourly staffing needs as well as the allocation of my limited purchasing budget. I can't afford to keep a brand on the shelf that doesn't move. With Catapult I know exactly what's selling and what's not."

Signage & UPCs : Catapult's Label Interface

With Catapult Vides creates all of Davenport's store signage in house. "We create labels by the shelf because each bottle has its own UPC code. The big exception is cigars," explains Vides. "Although the bulk boxes come with UPC codes, we sell cigars as individual units. Catapult's LabelVision interface allows me to print individually customized labels for each and every cigar I sell. This is what I mean when I refer to complete automation. Catapult has practically eliminated the need to enter prices manually. Catapult does everything Davenport Liquors needs it to do, and it was easy to learn."
