Announces Deployment of Green POS Solution

BOONE, NC - April 22, 2008 - ECRS today announced deployment of a complete POS solution that consumes less energy than a standard 100-watt light bulb. This energy efficient point-of-sale solution offers retailers an environmentally friendly, cost-reducing option for operating their retail business.

As tested in a lab environment, a complete POS system including the ECRS Freedom Panel, customer interface display, scanner-scale, receipt printer, signature capture device and cash drawer consumed a range of only 75-98 watts of power. This technology helps retailers save money from high energy costs, while also helping to relieve the stress of excess energy consumption on the environment.

Product Details and Availability

The ECRS Freedom Panel is at the core of this innovative, industry leading POS configuration. The environmentally aware Freedom Panel is designed with Intel low-voltage technology and a low heat Celeron M processor, which together provide the most functionality for the lowest amount of energy expended. This terminal was designed specifically to run ECRS Catapult software applications using the latest technological advances available in the industry including infrared touch, compact design and simplified cable management. Product design also focuses on ease of use for the cashier allowing ultra fast transaction speed. Additionally, the Freedom Panel can be used in Catapult QUICKCheck configurations and Catapult Manager Workstations.

Energy Consumption in the United States

The United States is the largest energy consumer in the world. Based on utility company records and as reported by the Energy Information Administration, the U.S. electricity consumption in 2006 was 3,816,845 million kilowatthours and is expected to continue to rise by 5% annually. The growing demand for electricity taxes energy resources and creates higher energy costs for everyone. According to a recent U.S. Department of Energy and Maryland Energy Administration report, simply through increased use of "off the shelf" energy-efficient technologies available today, the cost of electricity used in homes and workplaces could be cut by up to 80%. Through increased use of available energy saving measures, global warming pollutant emissions could be reduced at a rate of 10% by the year 2010 bringing levels below those reported in 1990 (Energy Innovations report).
